What is this?

This tool provides a simple way to convert from Brix to Specific Gravity (SG), which is more commonly used for measuring fermentation. It can also estimate the final gravity after (or during) fermentation, and the alcohol by volume (ABV) of the finished product.

What is Brix?

Brix is a unit of measurement that indicates the sugar content of an aqueous solution. It is commonly used in brewing, winemaking, and other food industries to measure the concentration of sugar in liquids. Specifically, Brix represents the percentage of sugar by weight in a solution.

A popular way to measure Brix is using a

1° Brix = 1% Sugar

A solution with 1° Brix contains 1 gram of sugar per 100 grams of solution. For example, if you have a solution with 15° Brix, it means that the solution is 15% sugar by weight.

Used by professionals and hobbyists

In brewing and winemaking, Brix is used to estimate the potential alcohol content in the final product. The more sugar in the must (for wine) or wort (for beer), the more alcohol the yeast can produce during fermentation.
